Well, I finally did it. I took a short vacation. Northern Wisconsin - Boulder Junction. Musky Capital of the World® and all. WOW was it hot -- Mid-to-upper 90’s every day - VERY unusual.
Anyway, as long as I’m in northern Wisconsin, I couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to visit the “birthplace” of some of my favorite gear -
Crane Song is located in Superior, Wisconsin. Basically the far northwest point, right across the bridge from Duluth, Minnesota. So, I sort of set everything up with Scott Lillo & Dave Hill that I’d be stopping by on Friday. The plan was then to hit a concert with Scott in Minneapolis that evening. I sort of left early on that leg of the journey, as I had to find lodging for the night and had a long drive back to Chicago in the morning.
I’m certainly not what anyone would consider a photojournalist... I didn’t take too many shots, even AT Crane Song. Every time I took out the camera or even asked a question, I felt like a high-school newspaper reporter... So in all this stuff, there are really only about 3 photos of gear-head interest. The rest is all vacation fluff.
UPDATE - SEPTEMBER, 2005...
The first round of shots from July literally “busted” my counter (it stops after reaching a certain number of monthly views). The first Crane Song Adventure page had literally thousands of views in only several days. Of course, I only had four or five shots from Crane Song and everything else was shots from vacation.
I took a long weekend in September and of course, I wound up at Crane Song again. “By popular demand” (you all know who you are) I wasn’t about to leave without snapping a bunch of shots this time. So, this is for all of you who e-mailed me asking where are the “gear slut” photos were...
Be sure not to drool on your keyboards. :-)
